Dodgers New Owners Press Conference: My take on it

Today was a Historic Day in Dodgers Baseball. Just when we thought this couldn’t get anymore real than it already is everyone got to see it made official on TV or Webcast. Mark Walter, Magic Johnson, and Steve Kasten were introduced by the One and Only Vin Scully in front of many of the Media, Dodger greats and the Mayor of LA Antonio V. Such a Landmark day. As soon as Magic was introduced they already got down to business and getting on the fans good side by Lowering parking from $15 to $10 which I have to admit makes me happy and I don’t drive.  It was great seeing this great moment before our eyes. It would have been very great if they had let the fans or something be involved for this great moment or season ticket holders at least but overall a great scene at Dodger Stadium.

There were a few things that I the owners pointed out that made me excited. With Magic he showed that we was ready to get to work and Said Monday that he’ll be up bright and early to work. He wanted to return the Dodger pride and promised to work tirelessly. He even said that parking was going down which I stated earlier was great. Magic showed so much pride and enthusiasm on being an owner and wanted to get to work right away. Stan Kasten came up and talked about what he planned to do with the group. Stan and Magic and Walter want to win right now and with the Dodgers in first place Stan will be with Coletti to evaluate what they can do to get better. They’re willing to spend the money to help the Dodgers win and bring back a World Series. He also brought up Fan Experiance and How he’ll be around Dodger Stadium talking to the fans listening to their suggestions even announced an email (fanbox@ladodgers.com) And encouraged fans to email them with their suggestions and questions and comments. I know  A LOT of Dodger fans will email him. He wants fan experiance to improve and wants the team to improve as well. He also talked about the Stadium and how they will make improvements to make this a first class ballclub. I didn’t get to hear much of Mark Walter but he will provide the money to do what it takes for improvements to the Team and Stadium.

The Q&A Segments pretty much went into more detail but what I liked was how they handled the media as far as the McCourt questions. Magic going as far to Kill rumors that McCourt will get funding. He Said they own 100% of it and McCourt won’t get a dime unless is revenue for developments but you have to do what you have to do to improve. He isn’t Involved in the Dodgers or anything and thats whats important. So People McCourt Isn’t Involved Lets Move Forward!!! Another question one of the media members asked was about Dodger Stadium. A lot of rumors about Dodger Stadium moving or Stadium name changed and from what Kasten answered it brought a lot of relif to us all. He said while he can’t answer for the century the Dodgers will play in Chavez ravine and the name will remain the same. Thankfully that killed the rumors and that they want to make additions to Dodger Stadium while keeping the current design.

The New Owners gave Dodgers fans a lot to look forawrd too. Finally a owner who will listen to the fans and who want to win now. Dodger fans we have our owners and they’re ready to get to work for us. They gave us a suggestion box and will be around the fans. They’ll promote the Dodger bran and bring fans to the Stadium They’re doing their part and we have to continue doing ours and thats support the Team no matter what. Go to the Stadium and Support the Dodgers in a Fan friendly way, Let our new owners know what they can do to improve fan experiance so we can have the best, and Help with the payroll so that they can go out and get the best players to win a Championship in Los Angeles. Things are looking up and we will come together as one to do whatever for this Historic Franchise that is the Los Angeles Dodgers!

Delvoping the Chavez Ravine/Dodger Stadium Area

For almost a year now there has been talk about the Chavez Ravine/Dodger Stadium area from the Next 50 Plans to putting Condos and Parking garages there to Building a Brand New Stadium we’ve heard it all. The LA Times put an article out on what could happen with Chavez Ravine and the Ideas that were brought forward. I’ve seen a lot of Ideas and I think some of these ideas are briliant and some of them are something you should throw away. One of them that I want thrown away and others will agree is the Complete Revanping or Relocating Dodger Stadium. AEG already said that the Ideas for a new Baseball Stadium could be in works if the Football Stadium plans fall through and this is where I stop all of that. LA Times said that many people would want a new Stadium and that couldn’t be any further from the Truth. The A lot of Dodger fans know why Dodger Stadium is a special place and I hope the new owners see that as well. You can make renovations to upgrade Dodger Stadium but a Downtown Stadium is the worse Idea you can have. Chavez Ravine is the perfect place for Dodger Stadium. Dodger Stadium is not falling apart and can still get renovations but nothing like the Ones Orel had in mind.

Now what can you do with the Chavez Ravine area? Clearly you need it for parking but if you really wanna redevelop it then theres Ideas for Parking Garages and Condos but I really don’t know How I feel about that. Looking around I saw an Idea to develop a Train or Subway connection and while I really love this Idea  The  Challenges of getting a Subway or Train to connect to Dodger Stadium will be a Huge Challenge seeing the Stadium is on a hill. Many Stadiums like Oakland, San Fransico, Anaheim (Some what) and New York (Yankees and Mets) Have that benifit they don’t have a Stadium on the Hill like Dodger Stadium. A Transit plan is in place with the Buses that pick you up from Union Station so that makes up for a Train/Subway conection. Another was a LA Live type of area and I’m kind’ve mixed about this. Having it open on Gamedays and non gamedays would be pretty cool because you can have resturants and Shops around it but my Issue is we already have LA Live/City walk close by each other. So having one that close I have no clue but Not a bad idea. Now If anything A Dodger Museum is an absolute must and I have no clue why this hasn’t been done. Dodgers have a lot of history as well as Dodger Stadium and for no where to really see it in a museum is really surprising. This should be the first thing added to Dodger Stadium. Now I’m not talking about a Small put together something museum but a Museum for one of the Historic Teams in Baseball! If you’re worried about this taking away from the Stadium tour then you shouldn’t as this only adds to the experiance.

Outside of that maybe first thing is first and thats renovating Dodger Stadium (No Major reconstruction). Adding the Field level enterance like the Next 50 Plan and others from that plan. What they want to do with the Chavez Ravene Area is up to them but lets hope it’s for the Good of the Dodgers and it’s fans. One way or another it’ll be interesting to see what the new Owners Do.

Hershiser and Dodger Stadium Upgrades: Do they need to be Major?

Dodger Stadium has been around for 50 Years  and has been through some renovations. If you look at the picture this is the latest plan to renovate Dodger Stadium. I know you look at it and say “Who combined The Ballpark in Arlington and Dodger Stadium” Well this is the Renovation plan that Former Dodger Pitcher Orel Hershiser have for Dodger Stadium. In a report Hershiser and LG CSN want to partner with one of the Bidders and propose this design to them. Now Lets think about this for a few seconds. This renovation would change everything about Dodger Stadium that made it so unique just to get with the times.  Scoreboard in the center, Suites in the outfield and so on. Nothing from the Classic Dodgers Stadium would stand at all.  Looking at this I know will outrage Dodger Fans.

I know Orel really cares about the Dodgers and want to do whatever to help the Franchise but Bulldog this Is pushing it too far. I’m sure everyone remembers the last Stadium renovations that was planed that McCourt had. “Next 50″ Project that was halted due to financial reasons. It was such a good idea which didn’t call for major renovations. It amazes me that some people want to make major changes to Dodger Stadium but I’m shocked that Hershiser wants to make such changes to the Stadium.  Dodger Stadium is such a unique Stadium that doesn’t need Major Renovations done at all.

Now I’m not saying the Stadium itself don’t need renovations because Dodger Stadium can use it but Major Renovations shown here is not needed at all. The outrage that a name change recieved is enough to make you not change it. Moderized Mega Stadium is not what’s wanted or needed. I believe that Orel should inquire somethings from the “Next 50″ Stadium plan instead of this. Dodger Stadium is apart of that LA Tradition that is preached within the Dodgers. I hope Orel doesn’t go through with this at all because such change could do some damage. You saw the outrage we gave for a name change and potential new Stadium talk. This is committing the ultimate Dodger Crime.   Dodger Stadium is one of the few historic Baseball Stadiums that are standing (Wrigley Field, Fenway Park  to name a few) and A lot of history happened in this Stadium that plays in the minds of many people to this day. Why Destroy that with a Modern Stadium on site? You want more motivation not to do Major Renovations? Look at the new Yankee Stadium.

Just like the KCAL Dodgers Commercial Dodger Stadium is where History is Made and Legends are Born.

This is a very simple game...

You throw the ball. You catch the ball. You hit the ball...Of course, baseball fans know that this line from Bull Durham is far from true, part of the humor of the movie and a huge part of the fun of the game. This blog is a space to talk about baseball, being a baseball fan, all of those things that make the game fun and the Angels, because they make baseball fun for me.
